I stood in chains in the middle of a dim room, my arms stretched wide. Tight shackles wrapped around my wrists like the grasp of a strong man. From the slightest movement they chafed my skin. Pulsating pain radiated from wounds where the cold metal touched my flesh. For hours I managed to stay strong, emotionally and physically, fending off beatings and humiliation, but the last hour brought with it unbearable pain, and it was breaking me.

Soon after the Emperor’s lapdogs brought me here, the prison guards tied my hands up and dumped a bucket of salt over me, laughing as I winced when the crystals got into my wounds. Searing pain burned every inch of my body, but I remained strong, showing no emotion. I was not going to give that sadist the satisfaction of seeing me cry.

But as the endless minutes rolled on, my knees weakened. I felt the power slowly seeping away from my joints and muscles. To get that one last push, I summoned Molly’s face to my mind. I had to stay alive for her. I couldn’t give up. Although staying alive might not work out. Even I knew that all captured Motleys faced death in Terraka City. No exceptions.

So much for this foolish rescue mission.
